Normally when you find a snail bench surfing it is something you can just pick up and ‘relocate’. I mean that’s the beauty of having a mobile home on your back, right?
But what would you do if the snail was bigger than you were, as in this photo? Well… I guess just walk away…let’s face it they’re not the fastest creatures in the world.
So what is this some kind of snail bench art installation piece? Yes, but perhaps, not in the way that you initially imagine. This art piece is not as 3D as it may look, it is in fact 2D, apart from the bollard and the bench.
When the image on the floor and bench are viewed from the correct angle it creates the perfect Snail Bench Optical Illusion.
Now, here’s something else that’s interesting. In most large cities these days, we are used to seeing unusual artworks and installations. So it seems natural that some city would have taken the next step and created some cool optical illusions for the population. But, if you look at the photographs, you can see a little box of chalk. Suggesting that this may, in fact, just be the work of a very skilled pavement / side walk artist.
It certainly looks as though it has been drawn with chalks. But I can’t quite work out how he got chalk to stick to the metal bench. Unless of course he used some form of grease marker instead of chalk. Perhaps, it wasn’t a quick piece of impromptu art, but in fact a carefully planned endeavour. In which case, the artist may well have covered the bench in paper? Who knows?
