This t-shirt folding trick has been around for quite some time now. In fact, I made a video log about it once. What I find most fascinating about this t-shirt folding trick is that even those who have tried it, forget how to do it.
I think the main reason why people forget how to do it is that they see it as more of a cool party piece, rather than a way to cut down time spent on chores. When, in fact, it can be both of these things at the same time.
For me, the best application of this technique is when I am packing my suitcase for a flight. It only takes me two seconds per t-shirt, and it makes each t-shirt extremely flat. Making it a great tip for both space and time saving.
Some of you reading this blog may have not seen this t-shirt folding trick before. If this is the case, let me take you through the process step-by-step. You will find it easier if you grab a t-shirt and follow along.
T-Shirt Folding Trick: step-by-step
- Place the t-shirt on a flat surface with the front of the t-shirt facing upwards, turn the t-shirt so that it is completely flat and in a horizontal position.
- Imagine a line running two inches in from the edge of the t-shirt.
- With your right hand grab the the top (near the neck) of the t-shirt along the imaginary line. Make sure to grab both front and back layers.
- With your left, pinch the fabric around the belly button area along the imaginary line. Make sure to grab both layers.
- With your right hand (still holding the neck fabric) grab the very bottom of the t-shirt along the imaginary line. Pinching all fabric together.
- Lift the shirt so that it hangs in front of you and uncross your arms as you do this.
- Still holding the shirt, lay it down on the flat surface, this time with the front of the t-shirt on the surface. Now fold the t-shirt toward you so that the front is symmetrical.
- Smooth over and pack away/store.
