CD Bagel Case

CD Bagel Case

I saw this CD Bagel Case image and just had to share it with you all. The idea is so simple that when I saw the picture I thought, “why didn’t I think of that?”

This CD bagel case idea stops the use of disposable food wraps and bags. These types of disposable food wrapping are pretty wasteful, both from a ecological stand point and a financial one.

If you like to do you bit for the environment, the re-purposing of the old CD spindle case helps to lower your ecological footprint. Instead of sending the plastic case to the recycling plant, where it extra energy is needed to produce a recycled plastic, you’re just recycling the plastic yourself.

As you can see from the photo, the CD bagel case is made from a smaller capacity CD spindle. I would estimate that it is a 25 CD/DVD style case. It wouldn’t work too well if you used a 100 CD/DVD spindle, or more, as it would shake around freely. You could, however, buy a larger capacity spindle and stack up two, or even four, bagels for perhaps a camping trip, or picnic.

Notes on the CD Bagel Case

Here’s a few things that I thought I should mention about this re-purposing project, some obvious, but all helpful:

  • Make sure you wash the CD / DVD case out before use. The last thing you want in your wonderful home made bagel is some plastic shavings.
  • If your bagel doesn’t quite fit and needs some more ‘bulk’, you can use the clear plastic CD / DVD that you get in a spindle as a buffer. Simply wedge some other items between the clear CD template and the top/bottom of the case until he bagel is snug. These may even be condiments that you enjoy.
  • Never try and burn data to a bagel!
