Yes No Illusion

Yes No Illusion – Perspective is key

This is another great perspective illusion. The ‘Yes No Illusion’ changes the word ‘no’ into the word ‘yes’ even though both words are one complete structure.

The way that the ‘Yes No Illusion’ has been constructed means that depending on the angle that you are viewing the structure from, will change the word that you are observing.

Who says that you can’t turn a ‘no’ into a ‘yes’? This should be the default screen saver for optimistic people…and perhaps pessimistic people too!

This wonderful sculpture is the word of artist Markus Raetez. Who was born in Switzerland, and still resides there.

So here’s a question for you. Is this ‘Yes No Illusion’ a ‘yes’, a ‘no’, or is it both?

Another View of the ‘Yes No Illusion’

I managed to do a few more searches, and I believe that although the concept of this piece of illusion art was created by Markus Raetez, the video footage may not be of his original sculpture. It may well be, but I cannot be sure, it seems there is some debate as to if the video is some person’s copy of the original sculpture.

What I did find is a few photographs of the original structure by Markus Raetez, here are those images:

Markus Raetz has also experimented with two words with opposite meanings in one single sculpture in more languages than English. A quick internet search will reveal more ‘Yes / No’ Sculptures in difference languages. Notably, the first two languages that I found in my search were Spanish and French.

I also found this a beautiful piece of his that uses a mirror to play around with typography once more. It was part of a larger exhibition, but out of the photographs of the other exhibits, I found this one to be the one that moved me the most:
