Our space going buddies work hard to stretch our knowledge of the cosmos. But they need to play hard too, so where do they go to relax? Where Do Astronauts Hang Out?
Yup…the Space bar…queue bad joke drum roll, please…ba-dum-ching.
Stick with me, because this blog post is more than a bad joke, I have some pretty cool stuff to share with you.
The question of ‘ Where Do Astronauts Hang Out ‘ is pretty obvious though, they hang out on their craft, whatever it is, in space.
I guess the real question is…what do they do while they are up there. In their downtime, they have to do something, and they have very limited resources. But what they do have is an extremely unique environment.
The first thing we think of, when we think of people in space is the gravity difference. So it is no surprise that the first thing I have to share with you is gravity based.
Where Do Astronauts Hang Out – Water Fun
While on board the International Space Station, ESA astronaut André Kuipers posted this photograph of himself playing with water while in orbit. It is not on a very cool image, but it definitely shows that astronauts are ‘up there’ having fun:
Where Do Astronauts Hang Out – Didgeridoo Fun
NASA Astronaut Don Pettit, finds time to perform a little experiment with a make shift didgeridoo. It still involved the use of water and gravity difference. Petit plays the didgeridoo into a microphone that is attached to a speaker. On the speaker some water drops have been placed. The water then reacts to the sound waves produced by the didgeridoo.
It is a mix of both science and culture, and it just beautiful to watch, but don’t take my word for it, here’s the video:
