A colour changing milk carton that changes colour as the milk goes off is currently in development. How cool is that?
The closer the milk gets to the use by date, the more colourful it becomes. Variations on the theme could be that if the milk gets above a certain temperature it would activate the colour changing milk carton. This way you would be able to know if the milk left out has gone past the point of no return.
Tetra Pak, the packaging giant, are looking into the colour changing milk carton as a solution, but are also investigating the use of microchips.
These microchips would sit in the packaging of the food container and would be able to be scanned using a smart phone. The information would not only cont5ain food usage dates, but farmer information, animal information and a whole host of other things. Exiting times ahead.
