Right, how did you do on the Psychological ESP Test?
Did you go for the star, or maybe even the wavy lines?
People tend to go toward the centre when making a selection based on an obviously odd number of items. The star was situated in the centre.
However, there were other factors in the selection of the symbol, mainly the complexity of the shape.
The star is the most complex of the shapes and with its positioning in the centre of the selection it was the most likely to be chosen out of the five.
You may be wondering why the wavy lines would be the second most selected if people tend to gravitate towards the centre when making a selection, as the wavy lines in on the far right.
Well a percentage of people will suspect that the centre is the most commonly chosen and will then try to move away from this. Such people will be trying to ‘out think’ any psychological Mind Play and will equally not go for the first item as it also seems to be too obvious a position. This pushes these types of people to the right hand positioning.
To make sure they go for that position the second most complex symbol, the wavy lines, was placed there. The wavy lines are not so basic that the person feels they lack imagination by choosing them but not so complex to draw suspicion.
